AKE FRUTS
ake fruit
Ake fruit is a national fruit of Jamaica with yellow and black seeds. The fruit, which has yellow inner tears and a vibrant red color on the outside, can be cooked as vegetable dishes. The fruit, whose African name is "akye furo", spread from West Africa under the name ake. The tree can generally grow up to 12 m. It is an evergreen tropical tree.
With its rich essential fatty acid content, the fruit can range from light yellow to bright red anywhere. Natural opening and ripening will be beneficial. When the fruit opens on the tree, 3 large round black seeds surrounded by a thick, oily, yellow shell spread around. These seeds are rich in vitamin A, zinc and protein. Although ake is a fruit, it is cooked in many different methods and consumed as a vegetable. It is recommended to boil thoroughly to remove toxins from the water while cooking. The water in which it was boiled should be poured carefully. There is no harm in boiling it a second time, but to be sure, salt can be added to the water to make sure that it is free of toxins, and then it can be used for the desired recipes. Even after use, the toxin content in the seeds, shells and other structures may change, so it should be kept away from children and pets.
